Simply put, SEO stands for search engine optimization, also known as organic search.

Minneapolis SEO | SEO Marketing | SEO Services It is the process of developing website content that is both keyword driven and appealing to leading search engines like Google. The goal of SEO is to rank higher in search engines when users search for keywords that best relate to your content.

Stay on topic. Your webpage content should be focused and to the point. If you have a webpage about SEO, only provide content about SEO. Discussing other topics will only reduce the value of your initial keyword research.

3 Simple SEO Tips

3 Simple SEO Tips For Small Businesses

Do you want to get your website ranked higher in google? Here are some great tips for do it yourselfer's

1. Write a page or blog post on your site that’s dedicated to each of your top keywords
This is also a good way to show your customers you know all about the product or service they’re interested in. Picture yourself explaining to a friend or relative in five minutes what you do in that specific area.
The write up doesn’t have to be more than 200 – 300 words and should list the target keywords no more than two or three times. Remember this should be as natural and easy to read as possible, but have the keywords mentioned in a way that makes sense.

2. Ensure the technical setup of your website is search engine friendly
Most platform hosted websites do this naturally already, but if you have a custom built website you need to think about your folder structure, site map, and HTML readability.
Most website designers spend lots of time making the graphics layout look visually appealing to their human audience, but you also must remember that search engines look at your site through a very technical lens.
There’s no “style points” here!  If your site is heavy on Flash, make sure there’s a text based description that lives in the HTML to help clue in the search bots. Consider removing your splash or welcome page, and instead build a homepage with descriptions and pointers to the main content areas of your site.

3. Ensure your homepage contains a text description with 2 or 3 of those top keywords
This is where we start crossing over to the artful/creative side of the process. The goal of this step is simply stated: “If you want someone to find your website by searching for these terms, where do you have them listed on your website for the search engines to find them?”
For small business sites, they typically have one main page. Make sure you add a couple sentences that naturally describe your business, and weave in your top three keywords somehow. To gauge success of these keywords, keep an eye on your site ranking to see if there is movement.

Are your SEO efforts bringing in happy visitors?

Your SEO efforts should be bringing more happy visitors to your website

Anyone with online business interests, especially small to medium enterprises, will likely be aware that Google is continually updating their SEO algorithms to improve the quality of their search results.

Minneapolis SEO | Minneapolis SEO Company | SEO Services | Search Engine MarketingSEO, as a result, has become a bit of a dirty word with many webmasters shying away from it entirely for fear of being slapped with a penalty and losing valuable organic traffic. But that doesn't have to be the case.
Entrepreneurs can still create a high-quality user experience on their site using ethical SEO strategies, while avoiding practices that may end up doing more harm than good.

In SEO terms, the happier people are with your site, the more likely it is that Google will give your page rankings a boost, and the more traffic you'll get.

There are a number of algorithmic updates tasked with measuring the user experience directly. A good example is the page layout algorithm that penalizes sites with too many ads above the fold.
It makes sense to enforce a limit on the amount of advertising that can be crammed into the top of a page because otherwise visitors end up having to search for the content they want, which can be infuriating.

Many businesses are not reaching their full potential because of unnecessary technical issues that they may not even be aware of -- even if Google is.
Even seemingly small technical issues can lead to large losses in traffic. Many smaller sites tend to have bad performance, leading to slow server response times and page load times. In addition, many business owners don't have sufficient technical understanding to ensure that their sites return the correct server response codes.

Make sure you understand your web platform and that Google is crawling and indexing it correctly.
Generate only original, quality content. It is far better to have one great article that gets to the top of the search results in its particular niche than to waste time generating tens or hundreds of mediocre articles.

Local Search and Why SEO is so important

Why you should NOT ignore Local SEO?

Yellow-pages and classifieds of the past have become all but obsolete. Today, consumers turn to the internet, search engines, to find everything from nearby restaurants to local auto repair shops.

With Local Search  like Google Maps and Yahoo! Local, the trend toward local search is growing every day. At SEO Martian, our clients (you can check our portfolio) have seen Significant ROI as our Local Internet Marketing initiatives have helped increase their local client-base.

If your business isn't optimized for local search , you're missing out on potential leads, clients and sales.
Some Facts to support what we are saying.

61% of local searches result in purchase
82% of local searchers follow-up offline via an in-store visit, phone call or
76% of Internet users first look at Local Search or map area of the 1st page, then Organic and last Paid
54% of Americans have substituted yellow page phone books with the Internet and local search
57% of Internet users shop online, purchase offline
It gives you a huge potential for your local business.
It can drive your business to a new height.

If your company is based in New York City and a client reviews your firm on your Google business page. If someone who is connected to your client on Google+ searches for “financial advisor in New York,” your firm has a greater likelihood of being at the top of the personalized results. It will also list your client, as having reviewed your firm. That’s huge as it’s essentially a Google-assisted referral to that new prospect. Even if the searcher has no connection to those who have reviewed your firm, profiles with many positive reviews usually rank better in search results.

SEO Hire a professional and open the traffic floodgates

SEO Is Like a Dam – Open Flood Gates & Traffic Just Keeps Flowing

No matter what niche you are involved in, there are ‘evergreen’ search phrases with the potential to drive a large amount of traffic to your website for years. And this traffic is free! It will continue without any dent in your ongoing or proposed marketing budget.
But optimizing just one page on your website will only deliver one extra traffic stream. What if you opened the flood gates?
SEM | SEO | Search Engine Marketing | Search Engine Optimization

Keyword research will reveal that many searches are carried out on business related and highly relevant ‘non-brand’ generic keywords. These are used by people who have never even heard about you, but are focused on their needs and problems, actively seeking out solutions. That’s the ‘water’ behind the ‘dam’ that you can tap into through SEO.

Elements other than SEO are important. You should use SEO as a way to convert and engage your visitors. Knowing the intent behind keywords that lead visitors to an individual page on your site will be valuable for your Web designer.
You may get everything else right. Your inbound marketing strategy may cover all the bases – heavy SEO, social search, local SEO, mobile optimization – and may integrate nicely with other parts of your offline and digital marketing. But without diligent keyword research underlying it all, you’re only building a superstructure upon quicksand. That’s just not smart or effective.

SEM | SEO | Search Engine Marketing | Search Engine Optimization When you know what savvy searchers are looking for, identify the exact keywords and combinations they use, and map them to individual pages on your website, it will make the difference between a 1% and a 20% conversion rate.

Do you think it’s quick and easy work to do this for each page?  Absolutely not!
Optimizing your site for each of them is important.  The text on your site, the visual appearance, the products and services you present to them – all need to fit into the concept of an “ideal solution” that your visitor has in his or her mind.

SEO | SEM | Internet Marketing | Website Promotion

The advice in this section is more strategic in nature. These SEO tips are still very actionable, but they also adopt a more holistic approach than some of the others.

Use Competitive Analysis To Generate New Strategic Ideas & Emulate The Success Of Others

Let's consider some good old fashioned competitor analysis. I’m not particularly talking just for SEO, I’m talking all areas of your internet marketing strategy. I’ve noticed many SEO’s who discount competitive analysis as simply “copying your competitors,” but I’m not recommending you should be doing that. However, you should definitely know what it is they are doing well (and not so well) to incorporate it into your strategy if it works.

A few tools I like to use to see what competitors are up to:

Ahrefs: Currently my backlink analysis tool of choice, clearly this will give you information about sites which are linking back to your competitors.

But what strategies are they employing to gain these links?
Are they creating comprehensive resource posts on their own sites? Are they using guest posts? Are they buying links?

SEMrush: One of the best overall SEO competitor analysis tools available for unearthing your competitor’s popular keywords, organic vs. paid traffic and suggesting even more competitors you may want to investigate.

SEO Supercharge your Blog for Google Success

Here is one sure fire way to supercharge your businesses blog for SEO.

Choose one keyword, then include it in your post permalink, title, and first sentence.

Search Engine Optimization | Search Engine Marketing | SEM | SEO Google Rankings

Including images in your blog depending on the type of blogging service you are using you should be able to click on the image and add titles and keywords as tags this will automatically put the keyword in your post URL – also called the permalink. This is an essential component for SEO success.

Search Engine Optimization | Search Engine Marketing | SEM | SEO Google Rankings
Then, simply use the default text for the “SEO title” field at the bottom of the page (which is your title plus the name of your blog), and copy the first sentence of the post into the “Meta Description” field. If good writing dictates NOT using the keyword in the first sentence (which happens often but is not optimal), then paste in the first blog sentence that DOES have the keyword in it, or write one that uses the keyword and describes the post in a way that people will want to read it. Put the keyword in the “Meta Keywords” field, then you are all done.

SEO magic happens when you identify one keyword to focus on, then put it in the trifecta of permalink, page title, and page description.
Make sure that keyword is included in the body of post a few times, is relevant and appropriate, and then hit publish. While there are other steps and tactics that help boost SEO, that’s fodder for another article!
One last note – be sure and offer multiple ways for readers to subscribe. If you can’t convert them to subscribers via email or RSS and/or they aren’t seeing your new posts show up on social media, odds are good that they won’t think to return to your site. Your  SEM | SEO may bring them to your blog the first time, but it may not bring them back. Keep this in mind as you consider and implement these strategies.
